Love poetry has never really been my specialty, nor something I’m even proficient at. Searching for some white noise today, I turned to the radio, where I was then subjected to a plethora of music by anti-love song queen, Taylor Swift. Inspired by the thoroughly resentful lyrics, I thought I’d rehash one of my old poems:
The Dark Side of the Love Poem
“For this special day, buy her something
So screams the commands of the TV,
a message approved by the “season of love”,
a commercialized strike,
right at the heart
of the single and the bitter.
An entire season propagandized
by florists and greeting card companies
squabbling to cash in on the resent of the heartbroken.
From their viewpoint, just remember,
roses are red
violets are blue,
forget the love concept,
because the green is sweet too.
