Cynical Napoleon Quotes: QOTW #9

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French revolutionary, emperor, and conqueror. A famed military leader and politician who stormed through Europe in the Napoleonic Wars. He held much wisdom on leadership, the desires of man, religion, and more. Among his many feats of achievement, he was also king of cynicism. Here are 9 of his most cynical moments:

“Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily.”

“There are only two forces that unite men – fear and interest.”

“Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.”

“A man will fight harder for his interests than for his rights.”

“It is the cause, not the death, that makes the martyr.”

“A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of coloured ribbon.”

“Occupation is the scythe of time.”

“You don’t reason with intellectuals. You shoot them.”

“There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind. In the long run the sword is always beaten by the mind.”

Reading through the words of Napoleon certainly puts one in the mind of an emperor. Have any suggestions for a future Quote of the Week case study, or any thoughts on this one? Drop them in the comments below! -MC
